The charger is the part of a battery upgrade people most often forget. Using the wrong one can shorten a battery's life or void its warranty.
Lithium needs a lithium charger
Lead-acid chargers use charge stages (and sometimes an equalize or desulfation mode) that lithium batteries don't need and can be damaged by. Lithium chargers use a profile matched to the battery's BMS. That's why every lithium conversion kit we sell includes a matched charger, and why Allied warns that lead-acid chargers can damage its batteries.
Match the voltage and the brand
Choose a charger for your pack's voltage (36V, 48V or 72V). Several brands require their own charger or an approved one to keep the warranty valid, so check the battery's product page. We stock Bedrock, Allied and Dakota Lithium chargers matched to their batteries in our charger category.
Plugs, receptacles and harnesses
Golf carts have different charge receptacles by make and model. Bedrock kits include a charge port with a cart-specific or universal adaptor. Allied chargers connect through a charging harness for Club Car, EZGO or Yamaha, or a universal snap harness. See charging harnesses.
Club Car onboard computers (OBC)
Some Club Car carts have an onboard computer that works with the original charger. With a non-factory lithium charger these carts may need an OBC bypass. Ask us if your Club Car has an OBC.
Charging in cold weather
LiFePO4 batteries shouldn't be charged below freezing unless they have a built-in heater or low-temperature protection. Bedrock, for example, specifies charging between 32°F and 131°F and offers heated batteries for colder climates.
Chargers for powersports, mower and marine batteries
Small 12V lithium batteries need a lithium-compatible charger or maintainer, and trolling motor batteries need a charger for the system voltage (or a multi-bank charger for series setups). Dakota Lithium's portable and onboard waterproof chargers are in powersports and marine chargers.

How long does charging take?
A rough estimate is the amp-hours you've used divided by the charger's amps. A 105Ah battery charged from nearly empty on a 15A charger takes around 7 hours; a 20A charger is quicker. Most owners charge after each use, so a full charge from empty is the exception. Dakota Lithium, for example, quotes under 2.5 hours for a 24V 50Ah bank on its 24V 20A charger.
Replacing a lost or failed charger
Buy the charger the battery maker specifies, at the right voltage: Bedrock 36V, Bedrock 48V and Bedrock 72V chargers, or Allied's 36V and 48V 15A waterproof chargers. Allied's charging harnesses and onboard plugs connect them to Club Car, EZGO and Yamaha charge ports. For other brands, ask us for the approved charger.
