How to choose a lithium powersports battery

Powersports batteries are sold by case size, the physical size code printed on your current battery (for example YTX12-BS, YTX14 or YTZ7S). Find yours, then pick a lithium battery listed for that size, and check the terminal layout (positive on the left or right) and the cranking amps. Lithium starting batteries weigh a fraction of a lead-acid battery, hold their charge in storage and have no acid to spill.

  • CA vs CCA: cranking amps (CA) are measured at 32°F and cold-cranking amps (CCA) at 0°F, so CCA is the tougher number. Compare like with like.
  • RE-START (Antigravity): a built-in reserve lets you restart a drained battery with the push of a button.
  • Charging: use a lithium-compatible charger. Some older lead-acid chargers have a desulfation mode that can harm lithium.

Choosing Powersports Lithium Batteries

  • Match your cart's voltage: six 6V batteries = 36V; eight 6V, six 8V or four 12V batteries = 48V.
  • More amp-hours (Ah) means more range. Lifted carts, 4- and 6-seaters and hilly routes need more.
  • Lithium needs a lithium charger. Most conversions also need a 12V converter for lights and accessories.
