· Battery tips

Both are lead-acid. Neither is lithium. Both take a lead-acid charger and both carry the $18 core on every battery.

The answer for a new lead-acid set, AGM or flooded

Flooded batteries cost less and need distilled water after charging, every month in hot weather, never before the charge.

AGM batteries cost more and do not get opened. If you water an AGM you ruin it. If you never water a flooded set, you ruin that instead.

Pick flooded when someone will actually do the water. Pick AGM when the cart sits, or when nobody will lift a watering jug.

Terminal style still has to match the cables. A sealed battery with the wrong post is not a maintenance win.

Hold that answer while you read the shop notes under it. The notes are the same rules we use on every cart. The answer above is the part that is specific to a new lead-acid set, AGM or flooded.

Salt air and corrosion

Coastal carts, island carts, and carts parked near a bay grow corrosion on posts and lugs. White or green crust raises resistance. The cart feels weak. The charger works harder. Disconnect the main negative first, neutralize the crust with a baking-soda paste, brush the post and the lug, dry everything, and reassemble the lug flat and tight. A thin film of dielectric grease after it is tight slows the next round.

Salt is not a reason to leave caps off a flooded battery. It is a reason to keep the tops of the cases clean so a film of moisture and acid does not leak current between posts. If the copper strands under the insulation are green, replace the cable. A new battery on a rotten cable will not fix the cart.

S, UT, and UTL terminals

Lead-acid golf batteries are sold with more than one post. An S post, a UT post, and a UTL post do not accept the same lug the same way. Look at the cable end you already have before you pick the dropdown on the product page. Interstate listings in this shop let you choose the terminal on most models.

Bending a lug to reach the wrong post guarantees a loose connection. If the cables are burned, replace the cables and then match the new lugs to the new posts. Do not pick a terminal style because it is the first option in the list.

Partial charges: lithium yes, lead-acid no

Lithium iron phosphate is fine with a partial charge. Plug it in when you get home, unplug it when you leave, and do not wait for a once-a-week deep cycle. Lead-acid wants to be returned to a full charge after you drive. Leaving a flooded pack at half charge is how sulfate hardens.

That difference is why the charger has to match. A lead-acid charger’s finish voltage and equalize behavior are wrong for lithium. A lithium charger’s finish is wrong to interpret with a lead-acid hydrometer. Pick the chemistry, then the habit. Do not teach a household one rule for both.

A load test the household can actually do

Charge the cart, unplug it, rest it, and write down the pack voltage. Then have a helper press the pedal with the drive wheels safely off the ground, or drive up the usual hill while you watch a meter that is connected safely and out of the moving parts. A lead pack that falls apart under that load, while it looked fine at rest, is tired. A pack that holds voltage and still does not move is not a battery problem.

Do not do this with the meter leads in your hand while you drive. Clamp the meter where you can see it, or have the helper only on the pedal with the cart on stands. If you are not comfortable around the posts, stop and send photos. A short across a 48-volt string is a serious burn.

Controllers and batteries are separate decisions

A stock controller expects the pack voltage the cart was built with. A lithium pack of that same voltage is a battery change, not a controller change, on the ordinary conversion kits we sell. A high-amp controller, a lifted cart with a speed project, or a 72-volt build can outgrow the stock solenoid. That is the Curtis Albright conversation.

Do not buy a controller because a battery article mentioned one. If the cart is stock and the complaint is range or watering, the battery and the charger are the job. If the cart was already modified, tell us what the controller label says before we recommend a pack.

Watering is only for flooded batteries

Flooded lead-acid batteries use water. AGM batteries and lithium batteries do not. If the caps unscrew and you can see liquid, the battery is flooded. If the case says AGM or sealed, leave it closed. Charge first, then water. Charging raises the level. Fill a low battery before charging and acid can overflow when the charge finishes.

Use distilled water, only enough to cover the plates, usually about a quarter inch under the fill well. Tap water leaves minerals. Do not pour in battery acid to top off a battery that only needs water. Overfilling pushes acid onto the tray and eats cables. Underfilling exposes the plates and cuts capacity for good. One battery that is always thirstier than the others is the weak one.

Factory lithium is not a lead-acid conversion

An EZGO RXV ELiTE left the dealer with a Samsung lithium pack, not a tray of flooded batteries. ECO’s fitment notes for the replacement split by generation. Gen 1 uses a Skinny case, best on about 2017-2021 trays. Gen 2 uses a Thru-Hole case, best on about 2022 and later trays. A standard RXV metal-tray or plastic-tray conversion kit is the wrong conversation.

Ask whether the cart was lithium from the factory before you quote a lead-acid set or a conversion bracket. There is often no core to return, because there were no flooded batteries. Year and tray generation come before amp-hours.

What a Bedrock kit includes

Bedrock Battery is based in Peachtree City, Georgia, and sells cart-specific conversion kits. Six sizes: 36V 105Ah, 48V 65Ah, 48V 105Ah Compact, 48V 105Ah Slim, 48V 150Ah, and 72V 105Ah. The two 48V 105Ah shapes hold the same 5.38 kWh. The 48V 105Ah battery weighs 95.9 pounds and is rated up to 6,000 cycles.

The kit includes the battery, a waterproof 15-amp lithium charger, a charge port, a state-of-charge meter, the bracket, ring terminals, and bolts. It does not include the 12-volt converter. Kit warranty is 10 years and transferable. Heated versions exist for cold charging. Ask about lead time. Bedrock conversion kits ship free. That is not a promise about other brands.

Parts and pages that match this

The price for a new lead-acid set, AGM or flooded is the price on the product page, not a number in this article. Bedrock conversion kits ship free. Allied Lithium packages ship free from Allied. That is not a promise that every brand ships free. We ship a new lead-acid set, AGM or flooded. We do not list a storefront address. Local delivery is only the area named on the shipping page. A city page on this site is not a statement that a driver covers that city.
