Battery hardware mistakes on a ICON and Advanced EV

ICON and Advanced EV: cables, the solenoid, and the charger plug are separate from the battery. Match the year band before you buy parts. See the product…

Interstate 8V GC8 deep-cycle golf cart battery

· Battery tips

This is the buying note for a ICON and Advanced EV (ICON carts and Advanced EV carts, which are not one model and not one year). These cars are often street-driven in communities that allow it, with lights, turn signals, and stereos that add a 12-volt load. The converter is part of that load path on a lithium swap. The fitment guide is the current match. An article can explain the cart. It cannot outrank a kit title that names a different tray.

Voltage comes before brand

Voltage varies by model. A lifted neighborhood ICON can be 48 volts. Some models are 72 volts. Read the pack or the controller label.

Series math is the whole voltage. Six 6-volt batteries are 36 volts. Six 8-volt batteries are 48 volts. Eight 6-volt batteries are 48 volts. Four 12-volt deep-cycle batteries are 48 volts. A 72-volt cart is a different system. Do not put a 48-volt kit in it and do not put a 72-volt kit in a 48-volt cart. Write the count down. Take a photo of one label that shows the volts. That photo is worth more than the badge on the nose of a ICON and Advanced EV.

A ICON and Advanced EV still on lead-acid is usually six 8-volt batteries in series, which is a 48V cart. After a full charge and a few hours of rest, one healthy 8-volt battery sits near 8.4 volts. The whole string sits near 50 volts. A battery that sits a full volt under the others is the weak one. Replace the set. One new battery in a tired string does the work for the old ones and dies early. Each flooded or AGM battery in that set adds an $18 core charge at checkout. A set of six adds $18 times six. The core is refunded when we receive the old lead-acid batteries. Lithium batteries, chargers, and parts do not get a core charge. The core applies on a shipped order and on a local delivery.

The tray and the bracket

ICON trays are not Club Car trays. Advanced EV trays are not automatically the ICON tray. Slim and 72-volt kits exist specifically because these cars diverge. Bedrock lists ICON on its own kit titles. A universal or ‘other carts’ kit is a different product. Use it only when the named kit does not list your model.

Brackets are the part that makes a kit a kit. The battery case can look similar across carts while the hold-down does not. On a ICON and Advanced EV, Assuming every ICON takes the same slim 48-volt kit, or assuming Advanced EV and ICON share a bracket because they share a showroom. If the holes do not line up, stop. Do not slot the tray with a drill to make the wrong kit fit. Send a photo of the tray.

What the wrong hardware does on a ICON and Advanced EV

A wrong bracket leaves the battery loose. A loose battery cracks posts, eats cables, and moves when you hit a speed bump or a cart-path bridge. On a ICON and Advanced EV the failure starts as a rattle and ends as a cart that cuts out over bumps, because the lug is no longer flat on the post.

The second hardware miss is the charger. A lead-acid charger on a lithium pack is not a backup. Take it out. The third is the 12-volt system. Owners finish the swap, the cart rolls, and the lights die. That is the missing converter, not a bad lithium battery. Match 48 volts or 72 volts before you match amp-hours. A 48-volt kit in a 72-volt ICON is not a partial upgrade. It is the wrong pack.

Cables are hardware too. If the strands under the insulation are green, or the lug is eaten, a new battery will not fix the ICON and Advanced EV. Match terminal style on a lead set: S, UT, or UTL. A lug that has to be bent to reach the post will loosen.

A worked check on this cart

These cars are often street-driven in communities that allow it, with lights, turn signals, and stereos that add a 12-volt load. The converter is part of that load path on a lithium swap. Charge the car, unplug it, and let it rest. Then measure. If it is still a lead string, measure each battery and the pack. A 8-volt that rests a full volt low is the one to condemn, and you still replace the set. If it is already lithium, use the kit meter. Do not declare the pack dead because a lead-acid chart does not match it.

What to send so we do not guess

  • Make and model: ICON and Advanced EV.
  • Year, and which side of any year split the car is on.
  • A photo of one battery label and a photo of the tray.
  • The voltage you counted, not the voltage you hope it is.
  • Whether the car was factory lithium (this matters most on an RXV ELiTE, and it is a fair question on any late model).

Installed, watered, or charged batteries are a final sale except for damage, the wrong item, or a warranty claim. If you are unsure of the ICON and Advanced EV tray, ask before you install. Change-of-mind returns are 30 days with no restocking fee, and you pay that freight. If we shipped the wrong part, or it arrives damaged, tell us within 2 days and the return freight is ours. Refunds go to the original payment method within 10 business days of inspection.

A ICON and Advanced EV order is ready when the year, the counted voltage, and a tray photo agree with one kit title. Until those three agree, leave the kit in the catalog. Bedrock lists ICON on its own kit titles. A universal or ‘other carts’ kit is a different product. Use it only when the named kit does not list your model. Send the set through the contact page if the fitment guide’s year bands do not describe the car in front of you.

Parts and pages that match this

The price for ICON and Advanced EV is the price on the product page, not a number in this article. Bedrock conversion kits ship free. Allied Lithium packages ship free from Allied. That is not a promise that every brand ships free. We ship ICON and Advanced EV. We do not list a storefront address. Local delivery is only the area named on the shipping page. A city page on this site is not a statement that a driver covers that city.
